People as Buttons

An interactive installation, addressing the theme of dissociation with nature due to the increase use of technology. It is a ritualistic experience mediated through conductive bracelets that extend the human body and control visuals and audio.

A collaboration project between me and my colleagues - Loes Bozon, Merve Koçak, Nathalie Duiven and Boy Aubert, related to the topics of extending our bodies and technoshamanism. By making an extension of our hand and by triggering our senses through sound and visuals, we want to achieve a non-verbal communication between people. This people can be friends or non related at all. Can we achieve a new way of communication? By extending our hand and creating a new “ritual” we can find a way to achieve a new way of using our senses with the help of the devices. Thus, find a new purpose of the devices. Handshake came from a ritual which became something common for us. With our ritual, we might create something which can be later on used on a daily basis.

Put me in a team and I would love to be its leader!

My name is Maraya Ivanova. I am currently a Graphic Design student at Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam. I am very much interested in social related topics and trying to find solutions or spreading awareness in a visual manner by having multidisciplinary approach. Recently, I have discovered my love for coding and making interactive works using different media, such as Arduino. On the other hand, I do want to develop further my passion for book design and binding by experimenting with different materials and techniques.

Collaboration with different artists and designers is important part of my work because every time it enriches me either with a new skill, or a new approach to the topics.
